The Baby's Arrival

Corey and I have decided that the baby will be born on September 25. If this baby wants a good start in this family he should do as I say. :-) The 25th is a GREAT day to have this little munchkin. 1. No games (soccer, football, softball) - none! Quite a miracle for the month of September. 2. No school - some development day. 3. It is a Friday, which means we go right into a long weekend. 4. It is the day AFTER Luke's birthday so we will have his party'ing over with and ready to move on.

See? Perfect. September 25th it is.

What do you think? It is a good plan - right?

Long Live Johnny Cash

The boys and I have been on a Johnny Cash kick lately. Our favorite albums are the San Quentin and Folsom Prison live recordings. The boys like the funny songs about prison life and running from the law. Luke likes how Mr. Cash half sings half talks his songs. It is quite a kick to hear your little 7 year old walking around saying "My name is Sue. How do you do? Now you gonna die!" (from the song A Boy Named Sue - one of our favorites).

They have a lot of his great songs available on YouTube - check them out and become a convert.

363 days to go

I can safely say that I am tired of birthday celebrations and Transformer paraphernalia. I think we have completed our week + of celebrating here at the Norman house for Colby's birthday. Colby received today, what I think is the last of the birthday well wishing and presents in the mail. He had a GREAT birthday and received many many gifts and cards and gift cards/money. He is one lucky little boy that has one serious collection of Transformers. Just know that every single penny Colby received for his birthday was well thought out and spent for just the exact and right Transformer he has been drooling over. Like I said a serious collection. What goes on in his little head is a mystery to me, but keeps me smiling all the same.

Thank you to all of our family in Texas, our great-grandparents in Hawaii, our family in California, our friends and family here in Utah, and our super fun aunt all the way over in North Carolina. We are seriously blessed with great family and friends that spoil us rotten!!!

Now we are gearing up for our FIRST DAY of SCHOOL tomorrow. All day at school? I will not know what to do with myself (at least for another month until we are joined by our little caboose).

Happy Birthday, again.

Kids' birthdays in our house seem to turn into week long celebrations. We use their birthday as an excuse for anything. "Let's go out to lunch for Colby's birthday" "Let's go to a movie for Colby's birthday", etc. When Luke was the only grandchild it was the worst - that sweet angel got spoiled rotten.

We had Colby's birthday weekend last weekend because we thought Corey and Luke would be gone this weekend which ended up not happening. So Corey and I went out to lunch today and Colby tagged along while Luke stayed at home napping (thanks to a very late night the night before). We head to Los Hermanos to get their lunch special. When we get there Colby perks right up and reminds us that tomorrow is in fact his birthday and at Los Hermanos they will sing to you AND bring you fried ice cream. I had for the most part completely forgotten that tomorrow was his actual birthday. So true to form the staff at Los H. came hoot'n and holler'n and singing Happy Birthday to Colby. He loved every minute of it and hated every minute of it. He devoured the ice cream and kept telling Corey that he (Corey) had had enough and the rest should be his (Colby's) own. The boy likes his ice cream.

Corey's favorite thing to do is to walk around with a "chip on his shoulder".

There will be yet another celebration tomorrow with DeeDee and the gang. I told Colby that DeeDee was bringing him a pink and purple princess cake and he freaked. He had to call DeeDee to make sure that she knew he most definitely did not want a pink/purple princess cake. He would in fact prefer a bug cake or a transformer cake or a bug that transforms cake.

Happy Birthday Colby (a few days early)

Colby's 7th birthday is a week from tomorrow and we went for our 2nd annual Salt Lake birthday trip. We stayed at the Embassy Suites - they have a great breakfast buffet in the morning, Colby thinks it is the best ever - especially their sausage.
We swam, ate sushi (Colby ate squid, caviar, raw tuna and anything else we ordered - this from the kid who won't eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, little bugger). We saw Transformers 2 (Colby and Luke's second time around) AND Colby got a present every hour starting at 1pm and going until 10pm. Now don't get your panties in a bind about the present every hour thing - the presents consisted of packs of gum, school shoes, a book, a card game, Transformer toys (of course) and a few other small random things - it is the every hour thing that has Colby bouncing out of his skin. Very fun weekend, very very tiring weekend.

The birthday boy.

Sushi. Mmmm - raw fish. I did not partake of anything from the sea, instead I enjoyed some of the best onion rings I have ever had.

This is the Megatron salute. Very scary.

Does this need any explanation?

Lola spent the night with our friend Starr. Starr has 5 dogs and 3 kids - needless to say Lola is a bit worn out. She could barely lumber in the door and collapse in her favorite chair, she was SOOO tired!

Colby's Little Obsession

Colby has a minor (I say that very sarcastically) obsession with Transformers lately. He talks about them NON-STOP! He has seen the movie with Grandma DD and thought it was about the best movie ever! We have a birthday weekend planned for him this weekend and of course it involves Transformer toys and seeing Transformers 2 AGAIN.

His collection of Transformer toys is out of control. He earns money every couple of weeks and already knows which Transformer he is going to buy with his money. His latest earnings come from dog sitting Charli. Here he is with his latest and greatest.

He has the package open before we even get home from the store and then he spends the next little while reading the instructions figuring out how to change it from car mode to robot mode. The worst is when he comes to me to help him figure out a trouble spot - really? You want me to help you with that confusing little toy?

Soccer soccer soccer soccer soccer soccer soccer ....

I am sure this will be the first of many soccer shots to come. Luke is OBSESSED with soccer. He watches soccer, plays soccer, talks soccer, etc. I put a limit on how much I allow him to talk to me about it because my ears start to bleed.
Corey is helping coach Luke's club soccer team and they just finished their first tournament this past weekend. This is the team's first time to play together as a team in actual competition and they did great - they took 2nd in their age group!

There was a great debate over what the right number for Luke to request was. He ended with 3, which apparently is a very good number.... ??

Cute? Maybe not so much...

The baby has had the hiccups a few times and again this morning. Aahh, so cute. The boys and Corey had the chance to feel the cute little hiccups and were thrilled and a little freaked out. Colby had the hiccups everyday for two months straight before I delivered and then everyday for the month following his birth.
Seriously, it is cute for about 1 second, then it is time to knock it off. It is a whole motion-sickness thing going on inside of you and a only slightly less annoying than having the hiccups yourself.

Grandma Jan - the pink w/white flowered Hawaiian mu mu dress that you gave me is my favorite! I wear it everyday when I wake up until I am forced to get dressed into something a little more presentable but WAY less comfortable. The Hawaiians really know how to do it.
